He explained that VPN makes the internet connection so slow that it just bogs down the internet connection where you just can’t connect to anything. Most importantly, I was able to connect to my company’s websites, servers, and databases. I do have a call with the cisco TAC tomorrow, i just thought i would see if any of you have some ideas before hand. After his changes, I was able to get much better speed (60 to 70 mb vs. Since about July, every 5 minutes roughly, Virgin has kicked me off my works VPN (the 'Cisco Any Connect keeps disconnecting and reconnecting, whatever that is) and then reconnected me. My problem right now, is I'm not even sure what should be considered acceptable or normal.įrom what i can tell nothing as far as bandwidth, cpu or memeory is being overwhelmed.Īny input or thoughts on troubleshooting would greatly appreciated. My works laptop connects to the departments VPN whenever I turn my laptop and connect it to VM. Now I realize that the internet is a crazy place and there are an untold number of factors that that could be causing vastly different results for people, so my main question is (if you can even answer it), everything equal what kind of slow down would you expect to see going through a vpn as obviously there is some overhead added. the average difference for the 50MB file is 16 seconds slower on VPN, 100MB file is 41 seconds slower on average over VPN, and the 500MB file is 3 minutes 2 seconds slower on average over vpn. Some people are seeing no difference and some people are seeing significant slow down as much as an 11 minute difference downloading the 500MB file (though this person was really slow in general). I have them download the files from the public facing IP, then I have them connect to VPN and download the same files, from the same server this time using the internal DMZ IP address. I'm currently troubleshooting some complaints about connection speed while connected to our Anyconnect VPN system, and I was hoping to get some thoughts from you all.Ĭurrently the way I'm testing speeds, is I have 3 files for people to download a 50 MB file a 100MB file and a 500MB file up on a publicly accessible web server.
